Teacher Debbie Moon's first graders were discussing a picture of a family. One little boy in the picture had a different color hair than the other family members. One child suggested that he was adopted. A little girl said, "I know all about adoptions because I was adopted!" "What does it mean to be adopted?" asked another child. "It means," said the girl, "that you grew in your mommy's heart instead of her tummy."
I just wanted to share this story...I posted it in the adoption section, but I feel it may get more reads here. I have it taped above my desk in my apartment. I'm 23 years old and I was adopted at 9 months. I have never thought of my mother as any less of my mother because she didn't give birth to me. Family is who loves you and takes care of you.
Happy Mothers Day to all adoptive mothers (and biological mothers as well)!
